Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Soldiers Party

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, fiends, and sinister influences growing in strength within the city.

Warning: Revealing details for the third episode of the new season are included.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

The third episode finished on a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will separate from the primary party to undertake their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Considering an extensive roster, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.

Hence, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Warriors, Schemers, and Questers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

According to the DM, the warrior group is for players who enjoy a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem out of place, but the actions of the third episode show why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

First, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a intense first encounter with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his own means, entering the secret base, striking the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The antagonist then settled his liabilities and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, north of the urban center, with Cyd close behind.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each character has a individual motive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, desires retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows Timmony and advises that it is a nasty location.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the group access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The fighter vowed a eternal obligation to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are sought by the authorities that control Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the family.

This results in them few options but to journey toward the northern region in quest for the traitor.

Future Episodes

Based on the latest episode’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the cast members to form the Explorers and Schemers tables.

Audiences can anticipate finding out which players will be in which group in the season’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on next week.
